*Elegy is the storyline that was in Detective Comics that covered the origin of Batwoman and is a very well-done story. It's not necessary to read this before Batwoman #1, but it is relevant to this current series.

So not only is it week 3 of the DC relaunch with some pretty awesome titles like Batwoman and Resurrection Man, but Dark Horse wins the Publisher of the Year Award for releasing the Complete Major Bummer collection! It’s just a joy to read any book by JH Williams. Batwoman, #1 written, drawn and painted by the man, with writing assists from W Haden Blackman, follows his trademark style of the constant repeated double page splash and the widescreen storytelling this enables. I first saw him do this on Promethea and it’s to DC’s shame that they didn’t take Scott Dunbier’s advice on printing the book sideways for the Absolute editions after they fired him.

And Williams expertly shifts from style to style to suggest changes in time and location in a fashion no caption box could ever achieve. So we jump from the ghostly night (as in, full of ghost-like apparitions, and a certain leather clad Batwoman, to a bright, bold lined, daytime, jumping from gradual shading to cel-style, suddenly very real and making the past couple of pages seem as if they were totally in a dream though we accepted it at the time. It’s a dramatically powerful technique and I’m flabbergasted to see it used so expertly.

And it’s not that’s where it stops, the minute we ente the Department Of Extranormal Operations, we jump again to something more Alex Toth/Frank Millery, pools of black spilling out and defining space, shapes and folds of clothes and skin. Beautiful.

The story doesn’t end there of course, Batwoman is defining herself by those around her, those she chooses to led join her, those she rejects. We also get Batman, Chase

Attention pour ceux qui veulent, je sais pas combien de temps y en aura encore. Y en avait pas mal de vendus, et a part la réédition de la ligue et Omac, tout les 52 de la semaine dernière ont été vendu

Bon oui, c'est juste superbe visuellement,avec une atmosphere hantée, des plans juste hallucinant tant ils impriment la rétine par leur coté iconique, et cerise sur le gateau Williams a une narration vraiment exceptionnelle et assez singuliere (il y a des gens qui s'y perdent parait il) Mieux encore, y a des pistes formidables scénaristiquement parlant.(bon meme si j'ai à redire sur trois points) c'est déconcertant entre la crime story et le surnaturel, trés humain, avec des subtilités de personnages (que transcende bien entendu Williams )

je ne connaissait pas du tout le personnage de Kate Kane alors c'est d'autant plus une belle surprise, et je confirme ce que dit Tonisme. Son background semble riche en drama, et il est archi charismatique (merci aussi Williams) c'est vraiment le pendant de Batman tout en ayant sa singularité. Le personnage garde une humanité, mais il est terriblement inquiétant, ambigu.. y a quelque chose de quasi mythologique, limite mystique.

Mystique renforcé par une piste de scénario. La dame confronte elle meme un personnage qui est vraiment surnaturel. et j'ai hate de voir ou ça nous mene. Le hic est que l'impatience n'est pas juste dans le à suivre, mais aussi qu' on essaye de telllement raconter que on se dissipe dans des sous scénarios meme si pour la plupart ils prendront certainement de l'importance par la suite.

Pour le moment autre soucis sur le meme registre, une storyline qui ne me semble pas forcément enrichir le comics et qui tend à faire des shots un peu gratuit sur des demoiselles un peu dénudées. ( qui reste trés agréables )

dans le moins encore, on se tire in extrémis d'un besoin à un passage spécialement de faire dans l'expo appuyée. Possible que ce soit un imposé pour que les gens qui n'ont pas lu Elegy ne soient pas largués.(comme moi)

Bref, au final malgrés tout cela, gros coup de coeur, terrible envie de lire la suite

Juste à y repenser en lisant une critique de Devin Farraci, pour etre juste, sii je serais pas aussi extreme que lui qui en gros balance que le premier épisode est pas compréhensible pour quelqu'un qui n'a pas lu les aventures anterieures de la dame (mis a part le moment expo bien sur) oui, y a des moments ou on peut se demander qui est qui et pourquoi (je pense surtout à l

) on a un peu l'impression de prendre le train en marche. Ca m'a pas sur déranger, surtout vu qu'on vit à une époque ou souvent on nous mache tout, mais c'est clair que la ca peut un peu perdre. Je crois que Williams est aussi tellement exellent a tout point de vue, que il donne envie de de s'accrocher quitte à passer quelques trou de scénar, en se disant aussi qu'ils n'ont pas grande importance

Aprés yes c'est certainement pas parfait, mais on touche tellement au brillant sur bcp de points je trouve que vraiment ça passe vu de chez moi et d'ailleurs, me donne envie de le relire

Lu Elegy, trés trés bon.

Le personnage est toujours aussi fort : Charismatique, fort et sensible à la fois. Ses origines sont poignantes et son combat contre la vilaine de Elegy, si hormis que la villaine est bien barge peut sembler anecdotique dans la vie de la dame, il prend un tournant tragique et bien plus personnel en fin de compte.Dans le moins, peut etre quelques péripéties en dessous qui font que parfois je trouve on tombe dans le téléfilm deluxe super bien réalisé cela dit.

A lire aussi dans le meme album les origines poignantes de la dame.Ca fait pas mal parfois écho je trouve à Batman Begins avec un twist tout personnel.

Bon, pas la peine de redire tout le bien que je pense de Williams, il complete la parfaitement Greck Rucka.
