Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios' Iron Man 2 opened to an estimated $52 million on Friday (including midnight showings) in a record 4,380 theaters, marking the seventh-best opening day ever. If the estimate holds, it surpassed Spider-Man 3's opening day of $51.3 million.
The top opening days of all time belong to The Twilight Saga: New Moon ($72.7 million) and The Dark Knight ($67.2 million). The Batman movie went on to set a new opening weekend of $158.4 million, a number Iron Man 2 won't be able to reach, but the Jon Favreau-directed sequel should still be able to enter the top five of the best domestic openers of all time. The original Iron Man debuted to $98.6 million in May of 2008.

| Ca démarre quand même beaucoup moins fort que prévu.
Bête en grande partie à cause de Paramount qui avait limité le nombre d'écrans pour les "midnight showings" (ou Iron Man 2 fait quatre fois moins que le dernier Twilight par exemple).
Le premier IM avait fait $38,734,361 pour information.
Ceci-dit les retours négatifs de la critique pro doivent y être pour quelque chose aussi.

| Yes, yes autant pour moi, je n'avais pas fais de tour sur rotten depuis quelques jours et le film était descendu à 62% (limite du "rotten" donc) et 6,1. Là il est pas mal remonté (74% et 6,5). Je n'avais pas non plus vu les retours de Ebert et Roeper (qui sont assez positifs).
Aussi j'étais sur allo, j'ai vu la critique française à 2.1/4. Ca m'a un peu refroidi.
L'aurait fallu que je recoupe. Désolé.

| Mojo est à $139,500,000 mais probablement à mercredi/jeudi au mieux. Devrait être aux alentours de 180/190 après le week-end.
Le film devrait faire un premier week-end à $140,000,000 en domestique (s'il ne perd que 30% dimanche ce qui n'est pas gagné).
IM2 devrait être à $320,000,000 (+/- 15 millions) à dimanche soir en total domestic+foreign.

ComingSoon.net has posted the box office estimates which show that Iron Man 2 topped the domestic box office for a second straight weekend:
Despite the release of three new movies, the Marvel Studios/Paramount sequel Iron Man 2 starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, etc. remained on top over the weekend with $53 million, a 59% drop from its opening weekend that brought its domestic total to $212 million in ten days. Internationally, the summer kick-off blockbuster added $31 million to bring its overseas total to $245 million.
